Key UK Immigration Changes in force from 22 July 2025

There is a number of key UK Immigration Changes following the Immigration White Paper announcement which have taken effect on the 22 July 2025.

Skills threshold for Skilled Worker Visa is raised to RQF Level 6: transitional arrangements will apply to allow existing Skilled Worker visa holders to be able to renew their visa, change employment and take supplementary employment, in currently eligible occupations below RQF 6. However, applicants from overseas, or those applying to switch into the Skilled Worker category from other routes, have to meet the new requirements.

The minimum annual salary threshold for the Skilled Worker route increased from £38,700 to £41,700 (and from £15.88 an hour to £17.13 an hour, or the going rate if it is higher). The minimum annual salary also increased for Global Business Mobility: Senior or Specialist Worker route and UK Expansion Worker route, Global Business Mobility: Graduate Trainee route and Scale-up route. You may consult with us regarding your individual circumstances to discuss how this affects your case.

Sponsored visas for carers and senior carers (occupation codes 6135 and 6136) are closed to new applicants applying outside the UK (entry clearance). For a transitional period, until 22 July 2028 visa extensions and in-country switching will be permitted but this will be kept under review.

Further changes to be introduced by the end of this year:
* Increasing the Immigration Skills Charge (ISC) by 32%
* Uplifting language requirements across the immigration system
* A new family policy framework
